After looking for something different in Brownwood, The Turtle was perfect. The menu was diverse and the staff was pleasant. We enjoyed the hummus plate to start along with the mushroom soup. For dinner we had the Apricot stuffed pork loin, the rabbit and the sirloin strip. All came out excellent! The sides were also very well done. Crispy Brussels sprouts and the squash macaroni and cheese were amazing! The bar also makes a great craft cocktail!

An often underrated part of the Texas "triangle" consisting of three small but very interesting towns: Ft. Davis, Marfa and Alpine, (some people would add Marathon to this list), Ft Davis may have the most authentic charm. Overnight at the Drugstore Restaurant and Hotel, visit the friendly bookstore, hike in the Davis Mountains at Davis Mountain State Park, where you should make sure to take the skyline drive to the mountain top for beautiful sunsets. Add a visit to Ft Davis itself and learn about its history and our country's Buffalo Soldiers, and you will have put together a very rich, enjoyable trip.

We simply could not believe the beauty of the Davis Mountains State Park! WOW! The Park is a stunning piece of land that is totally removed from everything. It's a great place to go and get away and just drink in all the natural beauty of west Texas. The roads are white-knuckle, hairpin, one lane roads, so drive slowly and be careful! The buildings built by the CCC are a lasting testament to a bit of American spirit that's no longer with us today. This is a special place. Definitely a wonderful little plot of nature to come to disconnect from the modern world and connect with a simpler time. We can't wait to come back when it's a little warmer-- when it's below freezing, this place is COLD!

Whoever said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder must have been from West Texas.  For those of us who live in the region, plants like the " Green Stool" are a part of our everyday scenery.  For others  the open ranges, and the heat resistant plants provide a look back into the fabled Old West.

One can imagine the outlaws riding, hell-bent for the Mexico border with the "law" hot on their heels. Thankfully, that isn't the case much anymore. One has the time to stop and smell the roses...well not many roses to be found and I'm not so sure you should be smelling too much out here. However, I do encourage you to snap a picture or two if you happen to be in the area.  Just watch your step. you may wind up with a foot full of thorns or worse, a bite from a local snake.

I took this picture less than mile from my house here in Fort Stockton, Texas as the sun was beginning to set. I'll let you be the judge if it is beauty or not, after all, you are the one beholding it.

Easy and short trails, medium length flow trails, and then some more technical drops and climbs. Nothing is super long here as you'll eventually run into one of the paved trails in the area. I had an absolute blast checking out 10+ miles and saw hundreds of other paths I would've loved to had the time and/or energy to explore. I'd recommend tagging along with a local to find the best trails without having to stumble through all the other stuff that you don't want to ride.

The paved trails can be busy at times so venture off on the dirt trails for some fun nature hikes. There is a fun riverbed to walk along. Neat to see when it is full of water or empty.

The trails are intermingled and mixed with paved paths, walking trails, etc. but once you get into the deeper parts of the park, you lose the crowd pretty quick.
